• On who is the toughest driver on the circuit to race against:
“Ryan Newman,” Bowyer said. “He is like a bulldog. Have you ever seen him walk? He will hang onto your right rear lap after lap. If you had a gun, you would shoot his tires out. I think you would shoot his tires.”
• On five-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson:
“I hate that guy,” Bowyer said. “Hopefully, he won’t win this year.”
• On Carl Edwards breaking his foot two years ago playing Frisbee:
“Here’s a guy who spends a lot of time working out, and he breaks his foot playing Frisbee,” Bowyer said. “How puny was that? I would have lied.”
• Not even his boss was spared:
“I call (Childress) Elvis,” Bowyer said. “If you watch him walk, he has a strut. He’s always polished and pristine.”
