It varied by state but you can have yourself excused. I live in Ky. I was summoned 5 years ago on the day I was supposed to start my new job and I was hired to quickly fill a hole. Anyway, I wrote the court representative a letter simply staing that I would tend to vote decide by what I thought was right rather than what the judge instructed me to do. Of course, this is written in a professional matter. An example of this would be a wife who kills her abusive husband. I wouldnt care what the law said. I would be in agreement with her. Not guilty. They dont want people like that on juries. Some states, you have to go regardless. Its the law. Good luck
